New Song: Build My Life
Every September we return to three defining characteristics of Cornerstone Church: Gospel Centred, Marked by Grace and On Mission. More than words these realities shape us gathered, equally as much when we scatter returning to work, school, home, university, friends, and family.
Gospel Centred, Marked By Grace and On Mission become the overflow for each believer whose foundations have been laid on Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, the only One worthy of every song, every breath, the Name above every name, wholly Other, set apart, who fills us with His heart leading us on mission to love those around us.
As we learn this new song, I pray that it will become both an understanding of who God is, what He has done, and what He has invited and called His people toward. (Ps 104:3, Ps 86:12, Ps 116:17, Heb 13:15, Rom 12:1-2, Phil 2:9, Eph 4:10, Acts 4:12)
VERSE 1
Worthy of every song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe We live for You
VERSE 2:
Jesus, the Name above every other name
Jesus, the only One who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You, oh, we live for You
Being on mission (‘…fill me with Your heart and lead me in Your love to those around me’) begins with the work of the Holy Spirit (‘open up my eyes in wonder, show me who You are…’), to see Jesus for who He is (‘Holy, there is no One like You, there is none beside You’). And thus begins the loop cycle of God’s revelation of Himself, wonder, worship which moves us out on mission (1 Sam 2:2, Ps 22:3, Is 43:15, Ps 119:18, Ez 36:26, Jer 32:39, Ps 143:8, Ps 32:8, Ps 25:5).
CHORUS:
Holy, there is no one like You There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
Show me who You are and fill me With Your heart and lead me
In Your love to those around me
The world beckons foundations to find their resting in abilities and relationships, in our background and education, in our government and wealth. Scripture tells us those things are foundations of sand, and it is only the Rock of our Salvation – the Cornerstone – Jesus Christ – Who is a firm foundation that can never be shaken. So with the final few words of this song we both remind our hearts of that firm foundation, and command our lives to be shaped by these truths (1 Cor 3:11, Ps 94:22, Ps 118:22, Ps 100:5, Ps 136:26).
BRIDGE:
I will build my life upon Your love it is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone and I will not be shaken
